AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation has joined Paper Province, a cluster of over 100 companies within forest-based bioeconomy. The membership strengthens our opportunities to build new collaborations and contribute to the development of bio-based materials with the forest as a raw material source.
Paper Province brings together companies, academia and public actors to drive the transition towards a more sustainable bioeconomy. The cluster’s vision is to take society into the future with the help of the forest — an ambition closely aligned with AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation’s work to refine side streams from the sawmill industry.
AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation develops new ways to make use of wood’s building blocks, with a particular focus on lignin. Through our technology, application-adapted lignin can be extracted directly from wood chips and sawdust in a single step. This opens new opportunities to replace fossil-based raw materials in existing products and to develop materials with entirely new functional properties.
We see the membership in Paper Province as an important opportunity to create new contacts and collaborations with actors who share our view of the forest’s potential. We can offer application-adapted lignin for several types of applications — from bio-based battery components and graphite to functional additives in composite materials. We look forward to exploring new opportunities together with the network,” says Johan Gising, CEO of AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation.
The membership in Paper Province is a natural step in AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation’s continued work to develop sustainable, high-value materials from forest-based side streams.
